Backstory (from the S1 character introductions)
- Lucien Crowley recounts his comfortable tiefling upbringing and the moment he witnessed his father’s restaurant quietly excluded from a city festival, shaping his worldview.
- Lucien explains how he co-founded The Collective as a communal refuge, how his friend Jonah Hale turned it into a hardline, violent organization, and how Lucien eventually left after farmer Thomas Alder was ruined.
- Lucien describes his subsequent work as a law clerk and a druidic ritual performed by a mystic named Eliza that gave him a vision of thick mists, prompting him to seek adventure.
Character notes (GM Assistant Campaign Details, verbatim)
Personality Traits I choose my words carefully, and when I speak, it’s usually intentional. I enjoy a good drink , good company, and late nights. Ideals Everyone deserves their dignity and to be treated with respect, no matter who they are. (based on his family’s experience) Life should be lived free of constraints, and never at the expense of others. Bonds Seraphine (Ex, and co-founder of The Collective). I couldn’t save what we were trying to build, with the collective or relationship, but I’m 100% in if she needs me. My family led honest and hard working lives, and were still treated poorly. I won’t let the hard work they did to try and better our people be meaningless. Flaws I always think I can talk my way out of things, not always successfully. I lack the ability to walk away. I enjoy my freedom and indulgences, but don’t keep it in control as good as I think I do, and tend to overdo it.
Lucien Crowley grew up in a stable, working-class tiefling family. His father, Marcus Crowley, ran a successful restaurant. Despite doing everything expected of them, his family still faced quiet prejudice. This shaped Lucien’s early views on conditional acceptance.
As a young adult, Lucien co-founded the Collective with Seraphine Vale and Jonah Hale. It began as a refuge for marginalized individuals seeking independence from societal constraints. Over time, it shifted toward coercive tactics under Jonah’s leadership. Lucien left when innocent people were harmed.
Afterward, Lucien worked as a law clerk, drafting arguments and assisting negotiations. By night, he lived more freely, eventually participating in a druidic ritual that led to a vivid vision of unnatural mist. That experience unsettled him and ultimately pushed him toward adventure.
