Character notes (GM Assistant Campaign Details, verbatim)
Personality Traits • I’m well known for my work—or at least, I should be. I expect recognition, and I’m genuinely surprised when people haven’t heard of me. • I carry myself like a legend in the making, whether others agree or not. Ideals Change. Life is like the seasons, in constant change, and we must change with it. (Chaotic) Bonds • I owe everything to my mentor, Enrique Montblanc—a terrible man who shaped me into who I am. If he’s still alive… I’d find him. If he’s rotting somewhere, part of me thinks he deserves it. Flaws • Caution is a cage. I’d rather risk everything than live a life half-lived. Organizations Ex member of local thieves guild in Memnon Allies Guild mate in Memnon - Kalifa Aubrin Merrysmiles - Scout Captain in the Guild in Baldur’s Gate Enemies Guild leader in Memnon named Samuel Flaming Fist in Baldur’s Gate Backstory Kaelis of Memnon – “The Djinn” Kaelis moves through the world like a man already halfway into legend—at least, in his own mind. Born in the streets of Memnon, he learned early that survival wasn’t given—it was taken. His mother provided what little warmth existed in his life; his father served as a warning of what happens when a man lets the world break him. The streets sharpened him into something harder. By adolescence, Kaelis had made a name among thieves and cutpurses. That reputation only deepened after the Djinn incident—a guild mission gone wrong, a child saved from a runaway horse, and a powerful Djinn who marked him with a supernatural blessing for that flicker of selflessness. From that moment, Kaelis understood one truth above all: life changes in an instant. Those who survive are those who adapt. Under the brutal mentorship of Enrique Montblanc, he was reforged into a deadly duelist. From Enrique, he learned that hesitation is death—and heard legends of the Blood Fire Phoenix, a flaming rapier said to grant its wielder the aspect of rebirth. To Kaelis, it became a symbol of transformation, of rising above the life he was given. But ambition breeds enemies. Accused of betrayal by his guild leader Samuel, he was cast out and marked for death. Only Kalifa risked everything to help him escape north. Baldur’s Gate was supposed to be a fresh start. Instead, he was arrested by the Flaming Fist for a crime he didn’t commit. Released for lack of evidence, he remains a marked man—eyes linger too long when he passes. Fortune returned in the form of Aubrin Merrysmiles, who spotted his skill in the brawls of The Blushing Mermaid and offered him a place in her Guild. Now he walks a careful line: watched by the Flaming Fist, guided loosely by Aubrin, and driven by the legend of a blade that promises rebirth. He’s waiting—but not idly. Because fortune favors the bold, and he has never been anything less. Life-changing events 1: Father was a drunk and left the family 2: Membership in thieves guild 3: Mentorship to Enrique Montblanc 4: Touched by a Djinni 5: Exiled from thieves guild and a price on his head
